Wolfe Goes to Dinosaur National Momument
Early this summer we took a trip with the kids to Dinosaur National Monument. It was a pretty chill trip and we wanted to avoid the crowds so we went to a part of Colorado less traveled. Below are pictures from the trip. Darwin did great, he really liked getting outside and exploring, we had to carry him quite a bit on the hikes. He’s at that age where he wants to walk himself, but would rather play around than hike to a destination. We swam in the Yampa River and he really like that and playing by the water. We seemed to end up trying to do stuff during his nap time so that was a little hard on him. We camped in three different campgrounds in the park the first was Deerlodge Park Campground on the east end of the park and right on the Yampa River where all of the rafters start. Then we camped three nights at Echo Park in the middle of the park and the last night we camped at Green River on the west end of the park near the Dinosaur Fossil Exhibit. We did some great short hikes with magnificent vistas of the Yampa and Green Rivers.
Wolfe is really growing up fast. He's developed so much and is no longer a little baby, he has a great vocabulary and can say loads of things and has fully developed with his own personality. He's a really happy little guy most of the time and likes to play. He is quite athletic, he can spin around and somehow manage not topple over and avoid any nearby furniture. He can climb a curved ladder at the park and pretty much all of the playground equipment. He’s fearless though and will climb things too big where he could fall so we have to keep a close watch. He's quite good at walking for his age and likes to go on fairly long walks, we've pretty much abandoned the stroller since he either wants to walk or be carried, although he is getting heavy so wondering if we abandoned the stroller too soon. He seems to really like being outside which is great. I wonder if all kids are like that when they are young and just become indoor couch potatoes as a learned habit or if some kids have more of a natural tendency or preference for being outdoors.
He understands just about everything and is able to tell us what he wants or when something hurts which is great after remembering all the times he would cry at night when he was a baby and we were always trying to figure out what was wrong.
I'm amazed at his ability to understand emotions, do things like laugh at joke, and overall how advanced he is. He is also very stubborn and if he doesn't want something can really be difficult- reminds me of myself sometimes!
Well we’re off for a bike ride with the little guy so stay tuned the next update.
